Abstract

Biological pesticides are easily made from various plants sources available in our vicinity. Recently, the utilization of this kind of pesticides is strongly urged to promote the practice of environmentally-friendly agriculture. A social service scheme to transfer the knowledge and technology on making and applying biological pesticides has been conducted at Jorong Kapuh, Nagari Sumani, Kabupaten Solok during the month of April 2009. The activities has been divided into four steps as follow: preparation (including administration), extension about biological pesticides to farmers groups, demonstration and application of pesticides, and finally, evaluation and data collection through questionnaire. Results indicated that the participating farmers improved their knowledge on biological pesticides and their advantages to the environment. In the long run, it is anticipating that the negative effects of artificial and manufactured pesticide can be minimized.
