Abstract

Some studies have consistently found relationship between anthropometric indices such as Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), and Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR) with serum blood glucose. A study has been done to investigate the relationship between anhtropometric indices and serum blood glucose among 70 adult, age 20 and over in Padang Pariaman population. Padang Pariaman is one of sub province in West Sumatra where coconut and fish are commonly consumed. The anthropometrics indices were Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), and Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR). Fasting blood glucose were determined enzimaticcally The results of the study showed that obese population was 34,3% 38,6 % and 24,4%. based on BMI, WC and WHR sistematiccaly. As estimated by correlation analysis, the correlation value (r) between fasting blood glucose with BMI was 0.101 (p>0,05), with WC was 0,168 (p>0,05) and with WHR was 0,186 (p>0,05). The results imply that there are no correlation between anthropometric indices with blood glucose among adult age in both men and women in this study. No one had serum blood glucose over 120 mg% and only 1,43% had serum blood glucose between 110 – 120 mg% may explained the inconsistent results in this study.
