Abstract
This research examines the effect of socio economic characteristcs on the risk of divorce in West Sumatera as a Province in Indonesia. The data used is Susenas 2003 for West Sumatera Province with 518 individual sample of divorced. Logistic regression model was used to estimate a number of socio economic variables on risk of divorce. The education level, kinds of job, income level and the mount of children were found significantly as determinant of divorce. The odds of divorce were 1,8 times higher for lower education marriages, 1,6 times higher for the kinds of job not as the proffesionals and leadership, 2,5 times higher for lower income and 0,3 times higher for not have children.
