Abstract

This research studies about the life of anak jahit (sewing workers) in Ampek Argkek Canduang, Agam, West Sumatra. The approach used in this research is qualitative one. The aim of this research is to uncover the life of anak jahit working in embroidery craft center. The result of this research shows that various patterns used in the work place to learn, as apprenticeship, or to be the workers have given them the opportunity to develop their selves to be entrepreneurs. For everybody who has skill. he or she can fourd a sewing business rvithout help from the government. Moreover, if they have high skill, they are asked by the employer of the bigger workshop and company employed to make the fine embroidery goods, such as telekung (moslem women dress for prayer), and embroidered dress, which have high price. The embroidered dress have price Rp 1.000.000.00- 2.000.000,00/pieces. For anak jahit who has achieved this level, she or he also has good life and the success is in the future.
