Abstract

In the dawn of the twenteth century social movements in Jambi arose. And this research will describe this social movement, that happened in 1916. This movement was as messianisme movement as that happened in Java at the same period. This social movement have 3 causal factor : politics, economy and social. Before it by 1910 in Sarolangun and Muara Tembesi have accored a resistance movement to the colonial goverment, the pioneer was Alam Bidar. There after in 1914 it happened too in Bangko with his leader was kademang Ali. The wider and the bigger movement in Jambi happened by 1916 under the leadership of H. Agoes. Previously, in 1914 Sarekat Islam was founded in Jambi. In rural area SI grew as Sarekat Abang that was more radical.
