Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is coconut oil without hydrogenation process with 90% saturated fatty acids are Lauric acid and Miristic acid. VCO has ability to excite tiroid function, increase the ingredients and the activities of antioxidant enzymes, in order to decrease lipid level. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of supplementation in inhibiting hypercholesterolemia mice. This study is an experimental laboratory research conducted by recruiting 12 mice divided into three groups (n=4). The first group was the negative control, second group was positive control, third group was treated with VCO l% weIght for 7 days. Cholesterol blood level were determined by using Spectrofotometre method. Result showed mean cholesterol blood level in the first GRoup was 101,39 mg/l00ml, second group was 194,24 mg/100ml and the third group was 167,93 mg/l00ml. From cholesterol blood level analysis and Tukey HSD different test can be concluded that VCO supplementation has potential effect to decrease cholesterol blood level significantly. Key words : VCO, cholesterol level, mice, hipercholesterolimia
