Abstract

The presence of Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm), the pathogen causing bacterial canker on 15 commercial tomato seed lots distributed in lndonesia was evaluated. Extraction and isolation of suspected Cmm colonies were conducted by agar dilution plating on SCM or D2ANX media followed by colony purification and identification on YDC and TSA media. ldentity of suspected Cmm colony was confirmed by hypersensitivity test using Mirabilis jalapa and Nicotiana tabacum leaves, and patogenicity test on tomato seedlings. Results of the experiments showed at least four tomato seed lots out of 15 lots evaluated were suspected to carry Cmm and at least two seed lots were possitively identified to carry Cmm on the seeds. All of the infected seed lots (lot no. 10, lot no. 13) were produced in Java during 20O0-2002.
