Abstract

It had been studied about the use of traditionally processed gambir as St.37 steel corrosion inhibitor in slphuric acid media. The method used was gravimetry, by measuring loss weight of steel before and after corrosion. Commercial traditionally processed gambir Was grinded and diluted in aquadest. The surface of steel was characterizedby using optical photo Carton Stereo Trinoculer with 100 time magnification and functional group was characterized by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR). The results indicated that traditionally processed gambir is able to inhibit steel corrosion in sulfuric acid 0,1; 0,2; 0,3; 0,4; and 0.5 N concentration with inhibition efficiency each are 24,63; 31,05; 36,81; 43,48; and 59,25% respectively. The surface characteized, showed that change of surface texture of steel before corrosion, in layer with traditionally processed gambir and after corrosion in medium sulfuric acid. IR characteized of functional group showed the interaction between Fe and traditionally processed gambir cause schift of wavenumber on FTIR spectrum.
