Abstract
Two active larvacidal compounds (AC-H221) and (AC-H32) have been isolated from the n-hexane fraction of the Marine Sponge Axinella carteri Dendy, using bioassay guided by “The Yellow Fever Mosquito Larvae Microtiter Plate Assay” method. Isolation and purification of the compounds were done by chromatography method followed by recrystalization. Compound AC-H221 was isolated as yellowish oil with specific odour. Compound AC-H32 was obtained as white amoph, m.p. 173-1740C. Both compounds were tested against Mosquito larvae of Culex larva and showed the LC50 53,75 and 79,8 ppm, respectively. Identification and characterization of the active compounds were confirmed by chemical reaction and infrared spectrum. Based on spectral data and chemical reaction, both compounds were identified as terpenoid. Keywords : Axinella carteri, larvacidal activity, marine sponge, isolation
