Abstract

The study is about the hypoglycaemic effect of the active consituents of Leucaena leucocephala (lmk)De Wit seeds fraction on the glucose induced mice. The mice were groups each consisting of seven treatment groups each consisting of five mice. Having been induced with 1,5 g/body-weight glucose peroral, the diabetic mice in group one were only provided with distilled water. In treatment group five received 10 mg/kg body weight A-1-A-5 isolated. In group seven, diabetic mice were given 10 mg/kg body weight quercetine. The blod of the mice was taken from tails on the minute 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180. The blood was tested to measure the amount of glucose. In animal experiment of active constituent suppressed the increase of postprandial blood glucose level compare to the control (p<0,05). The structure of active constituent galactomannan was determined by spectroscopic data interpretation and by comparison of these data with values in the literature.
