Abstract

An anti hypertensive effect of Connarus grandis Jack leaves ethanolic extract has been investigated on anesthetized two kidney one clipt (2K1C) Goldblatt hypertensive rats. Four groups of animals were treated with the extract at doses of 10, 20, 40 and 80 mg/kg BW intra peritoneally. These doses were repeated every half an hour. Blood pressure (systolic, diastolic, mean) and heart rat were measured ten miknutes after each dose. As comparisons, a groups of control animals (treated with saline) and another treated with Captopril (2.5 mg/kg) were used. Results showed that the extract reduced SBP, DBP and MAP especially at dose of 20 mg/kg. The potency of this extract in reducing blood pressure was lower as compared to those given by Captopril.
