Abstract

In this paper the author tries to analyze Minangkabau social structure by means of theory of dual organization of Levi strauss. The analysis brings about two types of the Minangkabau social structure; first, concentric structure that consists of two socio-politic traditions regarded as moety; Laras Koto Piliang and Laras Bodi Chaniago. The second type is triadic structure that is looked at three cultural areas of origin of the Minangkabau; Luhak Nan Tigo, Tungku Tigo Sajarangan and Rajo Tigo Selo.
