Abstract

A Research has been conducted to determine the ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid reduced the Fe(III) to Fe(II) than Fe(II) ions was determined spectrophotometrycally. The optimum condition for the complex formation were wavelength- 488 nm, pH 4.5, concentration of Fe(III) ion 8.8 x 10-5 M, concentration of ortho-phenantroline 4 x 10-3%. A mixture of citric, tartaric and oxalic acid gave a negative interference and can be diminished by addition of aluminion ions 0.028.M. The method was used to determine the concentration of ascorbic acid in citrus fruits. Concentration of ascorbic acid found was 327.14 ppm, recovery 95.93 % and relative standard deviation 0.54 %.
