Abstract
Formulation of chitosan tablet and an assay of its mucoadhesive activities to heal gastric ulcer had been investigated. Chitosan tablets were fabricated by the direct compression method and its mucoadhesives force was examined by in vitro and in vivo assays. The tablets were evaluated for weight uniformity, thickness uniformity, diameter uniformity, hardness, friability and disintegration. The result of this investigation showed that chitosan has a good fluidity and compressibility for direct compression. The increasing the contact time of chitosan tablets with gastric mucosal will increase their adhesive force so, it can decrease the percentage of gastric mucosal lesions that induced with absolute ethanol as much 1 mL/200gBB in experimental rats (p<0,05). Chitosan tablets can reduce gastric mucosal lesions that its effectiveness with sucralfate tablets is not significantly difference (p>0,05).
