Abstract
Intestinal helminth infection especially caused by soil transmitted - helminth is still unsolved problem in Indonesia Children are particularly vulnerable to get health problem caused by soil transmitted - helminth. The health problems are malnutrition, growth retardation and nowadays impairment immune response of antigen. The impairment is caused by Th2 polarized response in acute infection and modified Th2 response in chronic infection. Tetanus toksoid which is annually given to elementary school children in Bulan Imunisasi Anak Sekolah (BIAS) is known as T cell strong inducer in human after vaccination. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of intestinal helminth infection on serum IFN-gamma dan total IgE after administered tetanus vaccination. This research is cross sectional study and it was conducted in Kecamatan Batang Anai Kabupaten Padang Pariaman. Population of this study are 2nd and 3rd grade-of elementary school student in SDN 08 and SDN 22 and all population was taken as sample. History of allergy and using corticosteroid medicine were taken by using questionnaire. Nutritional status was taken by antropometric measurement. Intestinal helminthiasis status was taken by Kato - Katz methode of fecal examination. Serum tFN-y anA totat IgE was analyzed by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) methode. The data was analyzed by Kolmogorov- Smirnov test for two independent samples and Spearman correlation. Mean of IFN-gamma and total IgE in intestinal helminthiasis group are 0,15 +- 0,16 piko g/ml and 1902,81 +- 2194,4 IU/ml. Mean of IFN-gamma and total IgE in uninfected control group are 1,4 +- 1,02 piko g/ml and 2036,28 +2320,720 IU/ml. There was significant difference on serum IFN-gamma level in intestinal helminth infection group and unifected control group (p<0,05). There was no significant difference on serum total IgE level in intestinal helminth infection group and uninfected control group (p>0,05). There was no correlation between serum IFN-gamma and total IgE in intestinal helminth infection group. (r = 0,199) This study concluded that intestinal helminth infection caused by soil transmitted - helminth may impair IFN-gamma expression to tetanus vaccination but it did not influence serum total IgE.
