Abstract

ABSTRACT SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF NANOPOROUS TiO2-SiO2/CHITOSAN WITH THE ADDITION OF SURFACTANT DTAB By: Stefani Krista (0910412029) Guided by Dr. Yetria Rilda, MS dan Dr. Zulhadjri, M.Eng TiO2-SiO2/Chitosan is a compound which can be applied as catalyst of organic compound. The catalytic activity of TiO2-SiO2/Chitosan is influenced by its morphology. The synthesis of this compound by sol-gel method is modified by the addition of surfactant DTAB, composition of Ti and Si, and calcination parameter. The result of characterization shows that the morphology of TiO2-SiO2/Chitosan has been modified. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) pattern showed the crystalline of TiO2 anatase is effected by the presence of surfactant DTAB and chitosan. The thermal stability and crystal pattern of TiO2 is influenced by the presence of SiO2 which the anatase structure can be resisted at 550oC. The spectrum of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) showed the difference intensity in the range 4000-400 cm-1. There are interaction of Ti-O-Si, O-Ti-O, and Si-O-Si from the spectrum FTIR. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis showed the homogenize distribution of particle with the porous morphology. The Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) analysis showed the variance composition of elements of compound when the process synthesis parameter is varied. Keywords: TiO2, synthesis, chitosan, surfactant DTAB, sol-gel
