Abstract
THE ESTIMATION OF GENETIC PARAMETERS AND EVALUATION OF THE YIELD CAPABILITY OF SAME LOCAL CULTIVARS OF GLUTINOUS RICE ( Oryza sativa glutinous)
ABSTRACT
The estimation of genetic parameter and evaluation of the yield capability of some local glutinous rice cultivars (Oryza sativa glutinous) was conducted in the Wetland Experiment Garden of the Agriculture Faculty, Andalas University, Padang. This experiment was conducted from August 2011 and January 2012. The purposed of this experiment was 1) to quantify the genetic parameters, yield components and yield of some local cultivars of glutinous rice. 2) to evaluate the yield of some local cultivars of glutinous rice.
This research was based on a random group design with 6 levels of local cultivars of glutinous rice as treatments and 3 repeatation, total units were 18, with 2m x 2m plot size. The variables measured were high of plants, flowering age, harvesting age, percentace of productive tiller, lengt of panicle, percentace of empty grain per panicle, weinght of 1000 grains, weight of garain filled per clump, yield per plot, and yield per hectare. Analysis of variance (ANOVA using the F test) was used to determine whether the measured parameter were statistically significanlly different at the 5 % level. Subsequent analysis used Duncean’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) also at the 5 % level. To calculate of parameter genetic using variant analysis too.
The plant height, flowering age, age at harvest and the number of grain per panicle has broad genetic variability with high heritability and high genetic gain and weinght of 1000 grains, weight of garain filled per clump has harrow genetic variability, while low heritability and low genetic gain, amount of tiller total, amount of tiller productive, lengt of panicle has harrow genetic variability with low genetic gain and high heritability. The yield capability gave the followiry results : 1.86 ton/ha for KHUAS 21 cultivar, 5.12 ton/ha for KPUAPB 14, and from 4.05 ton/ha to 4.37 ton/ha the other for cultivars.
The cultivars which can be used as parental lines are KHUAS 21 for the age character, while goth KHUAPB 15 for the high plant character, and is KPUAPB 14 for the yield character in preeding program.
