Abstract

ABSTRACT Identification of Bacteria Carrier Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus In the Elementary School Number 13 Padang Based on Age and Gender Differences By : FADHILA AINI Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus or also called Streptococcus pyogenes is one of many pathogenic bacteria that infect humans . These bacteria can cause various diseases in humans , such as strep throat , pharyngitis , impetigo , erysipelas , puerperal fever , scarlet fever , necrotizing fasciitis , toxic shock syndrome , and septicemia . Acute rheumatic fever and acute glomerulonephritis is a complications arising after infection of Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus. These bacteria can also be found as a carrier in the respiratory tract , especially in children , do not cause disease but can be at risk for spreading the disease in the environment. Have conducted a cross- sectional descriptive study involving all students of elementary school number 13 Padang to get the number of carrier bacteria Streptococcus β hemolyticus group A at the throat of the students . This study aims to determine the amount of the carrier bacteria Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus on the students based on age and gender differences. The results showed from 119 students only 104 can take throat swabs , as 15 other students can not be examined by variety of reasons . From the 104 students were only obtained 2 students who suffer carrier Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus , which is in the age group > 8-9 years and in the age group > 11 years . Of the 104 students consisting of 54 boys and 50 girls were examined throat swabs , obtained only 2 students who carrier bacteria Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus only in boys . No carrier found the bacteria Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus in girl. These result indicates that the carrier bacteria Group A Streptococcus β hemolyticus in throat swabs of 104 elementary school students are as many as 2 students (1.9 %) , both boys ages 8 and 11 years . Only a small percentage of students found to be the carrier of this bacteria in the throat . Further research is needed with a sample of more students and also on other factors that may affect the presence of the carrier bacteria Streptococcus Group A β hemolyticus these children , such as education and occupation of parents.
