Abstract
ABSTRACT REMOVAL OF METHYL RED FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION BY RAMBUTAN (Neplhelium lappaceum) SEED by: Ayu Widya Astuti (BP : 1010412038) Prof. Dr. Rahmiana Zein, Ph.D*, Prof. Dr. Edison Munaf, M.Eng* *Advisor ABSTRACT Removal of methyl red by rambutan (Neplhelium lappaceum) seed as biosorbent has been studied. Biosorption is done with batch method, the data was used to studied adsorption kinetics of Langmuir and Freundlich. Biosorbent was activated using HNO3 0.1 N. Removal of methyl red were optimum in pH 3, initial concentration is 690 mg/L, biosorbent dose 0.1 g, stirring speed of 50 rpm, contact time of 20 minutes and the heating biosorbent temperature of 30oC. The biosorption capacity for biosorbent with optimum conditions is 62.6645 mg/g and % removal is 90.815 %. R2 value of the Freundlich isoterm higher than the Langmuir isoterm are 0.236 and 0.914 respectively. Freundlich isoterm indicates that adsorption is a physical process.
