Abstract

The objectives of this research was to evaluate polymorphism of growth hormone gene and its relationship with the quantitative characteristics of thin-tailed sheep (TTS) in Province of Jambi. There are two stages of this research is in the field and laboratory. The data collected in the field is the quantitative characteristics and blood sample TTS. The number of samples taken TTS 160 males and females aged 1-2 years old. The sampling was done in the highland and lowland in Province of Jambi. Research in the laboratory includes; DNA isolation, amplification and gel purification. Restriction enzyme MspI and AluI using PCR – RFLP. Data analysis includes, frequency of genes, heterozygosity values, Informative Polymorphic Content and the balance of GH gene genotype. Differences quantitative characteristics between the highlands and lowlands among Genotypes GH gene fragment was MspI and AluI analyzed using t-test . The present study concluded that : 1) quantitative characteristics of TTS both female male in highland are better than in the lowlands, 2) there is polymorphism of GH gene on the TTS highlands and lowlands in Jambi Province. 3) quantitative characteristics of TTS in the highlands and lowlands associated with genotype frequency of gene GH MspI and AluI.
