Abstract
The experiment was conducted to evaluate the growth of mangosteen (Garcinia Mangostana L.) seedling to shading, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi inoculation, and phosphate fertilizer application from April until September 2001 in the experimental field of Andalas University Padang with an elevation of about 250 m above sea level. The pot experiment was to evaluate three levels of shading (25, 50, and 75 percent), three arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) species (Glomus etunicatum and Glomus manihotis, and control) and four dosages of phosphate fertilizer (0, 150, 300, and 450 mg pot-1 month-1). The experimental design was Randomized Blocks Design in factorial pattern with three replications. The results of the experiments showed that (1) there were no interaction effects between AMF, phosphate fertilizer, and shading on the growth of 5 months mangosteen seedling (2) Shading affected seedling height, leaf area, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, and total dry weight of 5 months mangosteen seedling. Shading of 50 and 75 percent showed better results than 25 percent. Key words: mangosteen, Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi, Inoculation, Phosphate Fertilizer
