Abstract

Andalas tree is one of the endangered species in Sumatra. The declines in their population are due to illegal logging and reproduction problem. Rarely do we find their seedling around the mother plants. Therefore, we have conducted a research to find out their germination obstacles. The experiment was designed as a two-way factorial in a Completely Randomized Design with two factors and three rep¬licates. The first factor was the level of seed maturity and the second one was the germination stimu¬lator. We concluded that Andalas trees can reproduce generatively. The pericarps of the seeds must be cleaned off before germinated. Twenty-seven-day old seed was the best time of maturity. We sug¬gest soaking the andalas’s seeds in 0.2 % KNO3 or in young coconut milk for one hour before germi¬nated. Key words: Morus macroura, endangered species, forestry, germination
