Abstract
An experiment was conducted to determine what or progenies of the available progenies to grow on soil covered by what kind of mulch at a medium elevation to obtain better growth and yield. The experiment was conducted at Cugenang Cianjur regency, West Java, from March to June 1997. The treatments were complete combination of progenies of potato, viz. (1) Atzimba >< DTO-33, (2) LT-g >< TS-3, (3) Serena >< LT-7, and MF-I >< TS-3, and kinds of mulch, viz. (1) rice straw, (2) rice hull, and (3) black plastic sheet. The tallest potato plant which was planted on soil with various kinds of mulch such as rice straw, rice hull, and black plastic sheet was progeni LT-9><TS-3. The highest number of tubes was found in Proge-ny Atzimba<DTO-33. The amount of branches and seedling in a potato plant growing on the soil having straw mulch or rice hull was respectively more than the amount of branches and tuber in a potato plant growing on the soil having mulch of black plastic sheet. And this condition is encountered in Progeny Serena ><W-7 in trerns of the amount of branches,and in Progeny LT-9><TS-3 in terms of seedling.
