Abstract
Studies on the numerical classification of the pitcher plants (Nepenthes) in West Sumatra were carried out using quantitative approach that so-called taxonometri which analyse the correlation between pairs of OT'U's based on overall similarity. The such method was used to determine the phenetic relationships and classify the Nepenthes in'West Sumatra. The result indicated that N adnata and N. gracilis phenetically relare closely among species studied, judging from the values of correlation coefficient 0.490. On the other hand the values of correlation cofficient -0.586 of N. ampularia and N alata suggest the weakest relationship among them. From clustering and principle component analysis (PCA) revealed that the Nepenthes in West Sumatra numerically classified into six groups, i.e. group 1 0\f.adonata, N. gracilis and N. reindwartiana), group 2 (N. singalana, N. bongso and N. spinosa), group 3 (IN. rafflesiana), group 4 0\i. albomarginata, N.spectabilis and N.alata), group 5 0{. inermis) and group 5 (N.*pularia, N. mirabilis and N.rosulata). Key words : numerical classification/Nepenthes/relationship/ clustering/PCA
