Abstract
The potato plant (Solanum tuberosum L.) is usually susceptible to one or more potato virus. Some of the potato virus showed clear symptorns on particularly plant parts. The other potato virus such as potato virus S (PVS), Potato virus X (PVX) and potato virus M (PVM) are potato latent virus and symptomless virus at different environmental condition. ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) is a technigue to diagnose the present of viruses in plant. Nowadays ELISA tehnique is broadly used than other methods. The advantage of ELISA technique is due to its sensitivity, can be automatically and can be used in large scale operation" ELISA tehnique in todays practicing is mainly used in potato seed certification program and evaluation of potato germplasm. The research was conducted to investigate the existence and distribution of potato viruses at the potato production center in Indonesia. Observation consisted of testing on the virus existence done by Elisa, visual symptom analysis, and virus strain analysis. Potato viruses, PVX, PVY, PLRV, PVS, PVM, and PVA, distributed to all potato production center in Indonesia. The results showed that most tuber seeds (up to 82.1%) produced by seed producers were infected by virus complex (more than one viruses). The highest joint infection was due to the infection of those six kinds of viruses, up to 48.91%. Visually, there were four type of symptoms observed, namely: rugossa leaf (rough surface leaf), curl leaf, mosaic leaf, and stunted plant. The strains of PVX and PYY strains in every potato production center were the same.
