Abstract

Plant viruses do not have enzyme, toxin, or other pathogenesis substances. The pathogenesis of the virus due to nucleic acid (RNA or DNA). Virus decrease the capacity of photosynthesis through the decreasing of the amount of chlorophyll (amount/cm2), photosynthesis efficiency of the chlorophyll, and decreasing of leaf area per plant. Virus also decreasing the inducing growth phytohormones and increasing the inducing the inhibiting growth phytohormones. Frequently the multiplication of viruses in plant is negative correlated with disolvable nitrogen in plant. The mosaic symptoms of virus infection is due to the decreasing of carbohydrates in plant tissue. The objective of the experiments is to evaluate the physiological effect due to virus infection. Potato plant of four weeks old were inoculated with PVX, PVY and PVX + PVY. Four weeks after inoculation (eight weeks old) the leave were taken for ELISA test. The leaves of virus infected plant were taken as samples for chlorophyll analysis (chlorophyll a, b and total). At harvest the tubers were taken as samples for tbe analysis of starch and sugars.Double infection of PVX + PVY showed n synergistic effect, causing more severe symptoms, more stunt, lesser yield, than single infection of PVX or PVY' Moreover, it was known that multiplication of PW was faster than that of PVX. Chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b' and total chlorophyll of PVX, PVY, or PVY+PVX infected plants were lower than noninfected ones. Tuber starch content of CV Alpha decreased because of PVX, PVY, or PVX+ PW infection.
