Abstract
Ginger is a cash crop with high economic value. Howevero the productivity of ginger has been decreascd gradually. There are two limiting factors on preparing the rhizome as propagation material i.e. disease that caused by bac- teria Pseudomon&s solanaceerum, and the rhizome for unit of area is in great quantity. To overcome this problem, tissue culture is expected to be an alternative method. There was no standard method to discover the rhizome with great quality and quantity, and resistant to disease. One of limiting factor to success in plant propagating by tissue culture is composition of media and plant growth regulator. The research studies about composition of 2.4- D and BAP contentration that exactly support the growth of ginger in vitro. An experiment was conducted at Tissue Culture Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas Uni- versity Padang from August to December 1999. The result indicated that composition of 0,25 ppm 2.4-D + 3 ppm BAP shown the best composition,in which explant formed shootlet and plantlet in great p0rcentage.
