Abstract

The influence of water content in vaselin-adepslanae ointment base on the liberation profile of salicylic and benzoic acid has been investigated. The water content of the ointment base was 10.25 and 40 %. A simple diffusion cell with cellulose membrane (Whatman®) as a semi permeable membrane was used. The absorbance salicylic and benzoic acid liberated were measured at predetermined time interval by UV-visible spectrophotometer at 227 nm and 229 nm and the concentration of each was then calculated by using spectrophotometric multicomponent method. The results indicated that the ointment base containing 25 % of water showed maximum liberation of salicylic and benzoic acid. Statistical analysis showed that the water contentof vaseli-adeps lanae ointment base influenced the liberation profile of salicylic and benzoic acid significantly at p<0.01. Keywords : dasar salep vaselin-lemak bulu domba, profil liberasi.
