Abstract

In order to know the influence of depodding on the yield of soybean, an experiment was conducted at Sitiung A', Sawahlunto Sijunjung, West Sumatra, during the period of March to June 1997. The experiment used Split Plot Design, with 10 replications. The main plots were soy- bean growth stages, namely R5 and R6, and as sub plots were degree of depodding, namely 0%, 10%, 20%,, 30%, 40%, and 50% of depodding, respectively. The result showed that the number of pods and seeds at the time of harvesting were not significantly different between de- podding up to 10% on R5 and up to 40% on R6 compare to control. Depodding up to 30% on R5 and R6 showed that seed yields were not significantly different with that of control. The influence of depodding on the pod and seed numbers were bigger on R5 than that of R6, but, in the contrary on seed yields, was smaller on R5 than that of R6.
