Abstract
A Huckel molecular orbital has been used to study the anticarcinogenic properties of polycyclic (p) coumorins and chromones. Results of calculations of 52 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), carcinogenic or non carcinogenic, indicated that most of their chromones derivative were not chemoprotectors, while their coumarins were anticarcinogen. Both p-coumarins and chromones inhibited aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) activity, blocked the interaction of diol epoxide with DNA, in- creased induced gluthatione S-transferase (GST), had no effect on epoxide hydrolase (EH) activity. P-coumarins were also increase induced quinone reductase. In order to develop new antitumors, the properties of both AHH and EH to produce an active diol epoxide need a further study.
