If there is a nagari next door, then the wide ofnagari is fixed from how far somebody can walk until there will not be such a path be stepped in like: a steep, rapid river or a very dense forest. the tanah ulayat of nagari has been the ancetors'anywhere since they found it long time ago, no mattet' if it is a forest or just a field as a reserve and heritage for the next generation afterwards. Tanah ulayat can be divicied as "high forest" (hutan tinggi) and "low forest" (hutan rendah). High forest is the area that never been cultivated for farming, just like the first time Allah endowed it. On the other side low forest is the area that has been cultivated for farming or housing. The right of clan as member of united custom (persekutuan adat) for the land called hak ulayat, and the land itself called clan's tanah ulayat (tanah ulayat kaum) which hold by penghulu of the clan.
