Abstract

The aim of this study to evaluated substitution of elephant grasses with amoniated palm press-fiber (PPf)_had supplemented by nutrient bf grorrth microba. This experiment used in a 5 x 5 Latin square feeding trial in sheep of 9.4 +- 1,63 kg live weight. The experimental diets composed of 50% elephant grass or 50% PPF and 50% concentrate, were A = 50% elephant grass, B : 50% PPF, previously treated with 1.5% urea, C = B + 1.5% corn oil, D = C + 0. 1% Ca salt of methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA), and E = D + 0.1% val + 0.15% Leu + 0.2% ile. Animals on the ammoniated PPF diet (B) had low palatability and reduced total dry matter intake (552 vs 616 g/d) and lower digestibility (56.5% vs 64.6%). Addition of corn oil (C) and MHA (D) accompanied by the increase digestibility to 59.4%,69.4% respectively. The latter treatment(E) was better in digestibilily (69.4% vs 65.4%) and N retention (10.37 vs 8.56 g/d) than the control, but had the same effect on growth performance of the animals (104 vs 102 g/d). The liveweight gain of the latter treatment (E) was significantly better than those on treatment B,C or D.
