Abstract

Teratogenic effect of Ruta graveolens L. extract on white mice has been investigated. The extract was given orally at doses of 125,250 and 500 mg/kg BW commencing on day 6 until 15 of pregnancy. Laparactomy was performed on day 18 of pregnancy and followed by eviscerating two third of the fetuses with red alizarin solution and the others were hardened in Bouin's fixation solution. The experiment shown that the extract at the doses of 125,250 and 500 mg/Kg BB influenced body weight of mouse and fetus significantly, but not to number of fetuses. The closes of 500 mg/kg BW caused abortion. Malformation such as absorption site observed on the doses of 500 mg/kg BW, and losed of eyelid, pinnae, syndactyl and tail curling at the dose of 250 mg/kg BB.
