Abstract

Stewart’s disease of maize caused by bacterium Pantoea stewartii. The Bacterium represent one of the important disease which often attack maize, but unheard as cause of disease at maize crop in West Pasaman This research represent step early in the effort verification that disease of stewart’s and expand in West Pasaman. Sampel Crop maize of suspected to be attacked Pantoea stewartii taking in three districts of Sub-Province of Pasaman West. Isolation and identify Pantoea stewarii conducted by standard method of bakteriology, was done at Laboratorium of Plant Pest and Disease Departement and screen house of Agriculture Faculty Andalas University Padang from May to September 2008. Stewart’s disease have been found in area of sentra produce in Sub-Province of Pasaman West with estimate of percentage of attack 1%-15 %. Percentage of attack accurate location relative still lower, at least in three district in Sub-Province of Pasaman West have been found by attack symptom of Pantoea stewartii at maize crop. Ttest of patogenisitas got 18 isolats generating typical symptom of stewart’s disease.Examination of Green House Germination Test showed the existence of seedlings which is infection of Pantoea stewartii by showing typical symptom.
