Abstract
In this resarch, a computer program to determine characteristics of rock from thin section images were designed. The rock characteristics which are determined in this program are porosity and fractat dimension. There are several steps to determine porosity and fractal dimension such as thresholding and binaritation. Box counting method were used to calculate the fractal dimension. This program has been applied to 12 thin section images. The result shows that the rock pores are fractal and their value ftrnge fuom 1.72 to 1.99 and porosity value range from ll.46% to 59.96%. Porosity is in linearrelationship with fractal dimension.
