Abstract

The research had been done about adsorption of ion Pb(II), Ni(II), Cd(II) and Cr(VI) with using the peel of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.). The research used some parameters, they are : pH, particle size, metal ion concentration, heating temperature, contact time, and its application on the multi component solution, and waste adsorption. Every treatment used a raw material of the peel mangosteen for 0,500 g which was soaked in HNO3 0,1 N for two days. The adsorption optimum condition of ion Pb(II) obtained from 0,500 g weight the raw material of the peel of mangosteen were pH 5,0 , 180 μm, particle size at 27 0C, contact time 15 minutes; Ni(II), pH 3,0 , 150 μm, particle size at 27 0C, contact time 15 minutes ; the metal ion Cd(II) was obtained from pH 4,0 150 μm, particle size at 27 0C, contact time 15 minutes; and for Cr(VI) was obtained from pH 5,0 150 μm, particle size at 27 0C, contact time 90 minutes. The optimum adsorption capacity of ion Pb(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Cr(VI) for each were 1,715 mg/g, 0,102 mg/g, 0,192 mg/g, and 2,490 mg/g and the peel mangosteen adsorption capacity on ion Pb(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Cr(VI) from the waste sample Laboratorium Environmental Chemistry in Chemistry Department of Andalas University for each of them were 0,04 mg/g , 0,082 mg/g, 0,1349 mg/g, 0,306 mg/g. The FT-IR spectra showed that the peel of mangosteen has hydroxyl group (3437 cm-1), aromatic and aliphatic group (1616 cm-1).
